Hello All!!

It's been a while since I have posted on here, and much has happened in school during this time. We have been hard at work learning various concepts in the core subjects. It has been an adventure in math learning ratios, rates, and proportions. We will finally take the test on these concepts tomorrow!

In Reading we are on chapters 5 & 6 of Stepping on the Cracks, a book by Mary Downing Hahn. It's set during World War II in America. The main characters, Margaret and Elizabeth, both have brothers fighting overseas while they are being harassed by the town bully, Gordy, here at home. So far, the students seem to enjoy reading this book!

In Social Studies we are exploring the Ancient Egypt while learning about four important pharaohs and the monuments they built to honor themselves.

Science is one subject we never have enough time to fully explore, but the limited time we have spent has been investigating Newton's Laws of Motion.

On a behavioral note, some of the students have really been struggling to follow rules and procedures at lunch recess. This is a time of day when the students are outside right before they eat lunch. This is also the time of day when there is the highest student to teacher ratio. It is difficult for the General Duty Aids (GDA) to monitor everything that is happening on the playground at this time, so some students tend to take advantage of this. At this point in the school year all of the students are aware of the expectations the teachers have at this school. They have been talked to by me and many other teachers and there has been little improvement in this area. We have decided to compile a list of the students who are continuing to make these bad choices and keep them inside for lunch recess until we feel they are ready to join their classmates outside. This seems to be our only option until we can come up with a better solution. Any suggestions are welcome. If you have any questions, please ask!
